Tree Sap????? Don't be a Sap!!!

Today we were contacted by a woman who told us they just witnessed dumping of frack fluid from a tanker in North Central AR. We went over and collected a sample and a neighbor came out and also saw the thick, oily, foul smelling liquid. It was liberally pooling in the street and only 15 feet from a neighbor's vegetable garden. At the end of the road there were two gas company trucks and we asked them what this liquid was and they said “tree sap put down to keep the dust down.” Tree sap?

We then called the ADEQ emergency number because at this point it was after 4:30PM. ADEQ called back and said they couldn’t send anyone out there tonight, but would the next morning. We were concerned that a clean-up by the gas company was possible, since they knew we took a sample. We told ADEQ if they couldn’t come out that night we would call the police. We called 911 and the Department of Emergency Management came out and took a sample. If it was tree sap to keep the dust down…where was the dust? The March gravel roads are miry and damp at the moment. Who is kidding whom?
Tree sap or frack fluid? If it is legal at all to dump tree sap, why would this even be permitted in an area where gas companies could easily play a shell game? They could easily dump real frack fluid and pass this off as “tree resin” to hapless citizens who can’t tell the difference. In this case, we can only hope for honest testing. We can attest to the fact that the scent of this stuff did not smell like trees…more like a chemical , industrial stew. Tree sap?…don’t be a sap!

  2. Wow! I've lived in Arkansas all my life, and if we need to put tree sap on dirt roads to keep the dust down IN MARCH, we've got some serious problems!!!!!!! Keep up the awesome work!

  3. Your blog is looking great! Did you know that you can size the YouTube videos you have in the right hand column so they'll fit nicely? If you look at the embed code you'll see the numbers that indicate what size the video is. Just adjust those numbers until you get a fit. There are two sets of numbers and you have to adjust both sets to match.
